LTCA board recommends joining with National Voices

LTCA's board of Trustees met this Thursday, 31 July, and unanimously voted to recommend to members that LTCA joins National Voices, to form a new umbrella charity that champions the interests of all service users, patients and carers whose lives are affected by health and social care policy, building on LTCA's record of influence in the field of long-term conditions.

Member organisations will have the opportunity to vote on the board's recommendation and will be receiving further information on this in the near future.

LTCA Commissioning Project

In conjunction with Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation and Asthma UK, LTCA is collaborating on a project to support improved commissioning of services for people with long term conditions. A commissioning toolkit was launched by Diabetes UK, BHF and Asthma UK last year specifically for commissioners in England. LTCA now wishes to explore how it can support further improved commissioning at a local level and ensure that the work is relevant and accessible to voluntary organisations and patient and public involvement structures and organisation. Further information, including the scoping proposal which specifies the work required ia available here.

Finding the Balance

A LTCA/ABPI paper and consultation document. The key issues involved in balancing, for ourselves as patients and carers, the benefits and risks of medical treatments and a consultation on the way forward.

The document lays out central themes that lie within the larger concept of benefit and risk in our personal health decision making. It translates these themes into practical examples and suggests ways forward through a range of manageable initiatives involving a variety of stakeholder partnerships.

An electronic copy of the document may be accessed here. Paper copies may be obtained by contacting either the LTCA or the ABPI.
